Prayers for hurricane areas

My brother Justin and his wife Tammy are evacuating due to Hurricane Gustav. They live right in the projected path and are heading into Texas. Please send your prayers for them and the other people in the hurricane's path. There have been comparisons of Gustav to Katrina. If you are able to click on the picture below, my brother and his wife live just about where the "H" is above the red line. When I spoke to my brother yesterday he said the closest hotels were all the way into Tennessee.

**UPDATE** I spoke with the Police Department and they told me to try to let the insurance company do their job and give them a week or so. I also called his insurance company again and they said it could be another 10 days before they hear anything - they sent a registered letter that he has 10 days to respond to (then what, I don't know). Thanks so much for all the support and help so far!! I still haven't called my insurance company to find out if it will be covered under my collision or if it will only cover up to a certain amount - I'm really trying not to go through my coverage since Doug and I are trying to get homeowners insurance and move our car insurance to them also to get a bundled discount. We'll see. I'll keep you posted!

I was in an accident yesterday, not a big shock if you have been around me for more than a year… Rear ended just like last January. The guy that hit me is apparently having “insurance issues”, according to Mercury, his insurance company. But they won’t tell me what the issue is, they just tell me “we don’t know if we’ll ever be able to cover this because we can’t get a hold of him.” So apparently the information we have is incorrect.

His name is Jeffrey A Mathews. He was driving a silver Pontiac Grand Am plate # 4FYN678. His insurance information shows a 2002 Ford Taurus VIN # 1FAFP53U12G221043. I’ve run a search on the VIN number for the car on his insurance information, but all it tells me is what type of car it is. I’ve also run a search for his name in whitepages.com and called the numbers, but haven’t found anything helpful.

I need to find him to get my car fixed. Next week, if his insurance company isn’t able to get a hold of him, I planned on faxing all the local body shops just in case he takes his car in, but there are about 2000 in the area. My next idea is to hang signs with the pictures of his car and my contact information on them.

As far as I can tell my insurance will only pay for $3500 of the damages, but it’s going to be well over $5000 (similar damage in January was about $4500) because the gas tank has been damaged too.

He has front body damage now, the hood is warped and the light is pushed in.

More damage, the entire bumper is spider cracked and the tire cover is broken. The whole back end will need to be replaced again.

Update on house

Things are still moving along well. The appraisal was good and the home inspection was really good. Along this journey we found out a painter/general contractor type of guy lived and worked out of this house. We are very fortunate that he was able to keep the house in such great shape. The extent of the work to be done is some caulking, a new garbage disposal, and sealing a portion of the concrete near the house. We will need to get a refrigerator, washer and dryer and some other things like a lawn mower and such. We HAVE to wait to get those items - we can't fit anything else in this apartment! I'll try to post some updated photos of the ciaos of our apartment. I've started some packing too, which has made it a little more crazy than normal. I like to think it's an organized ciaos because I pretty much know where everything is and every box is labeled very well. We are going to move from climbing over things to get to this computer to more space than we are going to know what to do with. It's going to be so great!!!

Floor Plan

Doug found the floor plan after learning the home is made by Morrison Homes. The appraisal was done on Monday and the inspection is today, so things are moving along well.

Drumroll please......

Our offer on the house was accepted by the bank! So, we need to get an appraisal and inspection done. We don't foresee any issues with the loan, so that end we really aren't worried about. We could be official homeowners in the next few weeks!! YIKES!! We are so excited though. It's hard for me to not start packing right now, but I'll be patient and wait until the inspections and stuff are done. The paperwork is written that we'll be in the house no later than Sept 14th, but if we get everything done quickly, they won't sit on it for the extra time. We'll need to figure out what to do with our apartment. We have the lease until Oct 31st. So we'll have to pay Sept rent because it's within 30 days, then to break the lease we'll have to pay an extra months rent anyways, so we're here until Oct 31st. It gives us plenty of time to get our stuff moved. Depending on how fast things move I might see if we can find someone to move in here. We'll see. I've really enjoyed living here, but MAN do we need more room!

Rivercats Game

I ended up getting some last minute tickets to a Rivercats game from a coworker. Doug, Stan and I went to the game and were able to sit in a suite; the tickets were for Aetna and the company I work for to schmooze brokers. It was nice to not pay for food and drinks. Here are a few photos from the game. Doug won the baseball bingo game, so we have 2 more tickets to use.

Doug could use prayers if you have some handy :-)
He hurt his back Tuesday and was in a lot of pain Wednesday and Thursday. Luckily a chiropractor has been able to get Doug in for the last few days and it's helped, but he's still in pain. The pinched nerve in his back needs to calm down still.
