No more Favre-Bean

I was SOOOO hoping he would have come back for ONE more season and finish his career in Minnesota (my #1 team has been the Packers and #2 is the Vikings). No luck though. I REALLY wanted a Favre jersey from the Vikings; it was really hard for me to cheer him on while on the Jets last year. What a bummer. Oh well, we'll just act like he retired and never went to the Jets.

Last year, Favre tearfully retired from the Green Bay Packers after 17 seasons in the NFL and three MVP awards -- then made an about-face and was traded to the New York Jets. He retired again after the 2008 season, had surgery in May to alleviate a torn biceps tendon and then flirted with the idea of coming back with the Vikings, the Packers' NFC North rivals.

Favre turns 40 in October and didn't believe he had enough left to get through a full season, according to Childress.

Favre holds almost every NFL career passing record that matters, including completions (5,720), yards (65,127), touchdowns (464) and interceptions (310).

Of course, this is Favre, which means there's always the chance that he will change his mind. Former Packers teammate Matt Hasselbeck, now the Seattle Seahawks' starting quarterback, tweeted that "Brett has always been predictably unpredictable."

As far as Leber is concerned, however, the case is closed.

Blood Donation

I really think people should give blood if and when they can. I had an appointment today and on my way home I saw a sign for a blood drive. I hadn't eaten yet, so I turned into Burger King and got a kids meal and headed over to donate blood. I got there as they opened and was their first blood donation, but by the time I left people were filing in to donate. They were offering a free movie ticket to each person, so that was a really nice surprise and since it was in the movie theater parking lot they said they'd be really busy today. I was glad to get in and out quickly.

The last time I went to donate blood I was told my blood pressure was 70/50, so I couldn't donate. I'm pretty sure my blood pressure wasn't that low; I'd be having more issues than just being light headed after a donation. Today, I was told my heart skipped 2 beats in a minute and then my heart would speed up to make up for the missing beat; so I was told I have an irregular heartbeat. Seriously, I really wonder about the nurses sometimes.

Swing for the Cure

On July 18th we headed out to a River Cats game. Christina had never been to a River Cats game so it was a great excuse to get some friends together for an evening out. The game benefited Komen for the Cure and the players wore pink jerseys and the bases were pink for the beginning of the game.

LOOK!!! LOOK!!

Buh-Bye to the palm trees!!! WOO HOO!!

Doug's coworker and her husband came to take our trees last Saturday. They got to our house at about 11am and it was already almost 100 degrees. After an hour, some serious digging and pulling on the trees, they are gone - but not without breaking a shovel in half.

Fingernail

Okay, it's been long enough. Everyone has probably absorbed enough of our vacation.

I uploaded the pictures from my camera to share with you all and forgot I took this picture of the pinkie-nail I had growing. It was getting too long for typing all day and Doug said, "You know you're going to break that and it's going to hurt." So, I finally cut it off. It's quite a feat since I used to chew my fingernails until they'd bleed and hurt for days.

Finally done!

I finished posting our entire vacation. We had so much fun! We hope you enjoy the photos. I'm bummed that I couldn't get the videos of our take off from the bottom or the Grand Caynon and our Flightline tour posted, but we got PLENTY of photos!

It's been so great having so much time with Doug this week and being able to spend our anniversary doing some fun and amazing things.

I'm so lucky to have Doug in my life and so thankful for our families and friends. They've helped us with our home projects this week as well as gave great suggestions for state parks and places to see.

Bummer, back to work tomorrow. I could sure get used to doing this all the time, I would just have to find some way to pay for it :)

New bed and chair

While we were waiting for the concrete to set and in between Glenn spraying water to keep it moist, Glenn took Doug to go pick up the bed and chair we purchased. The bed is for our guest room - the mattress isn't in yet. I call it the "knotty" bed because of the wood. Hee Hee!!
This is a glider chair. I sat in it while we were talking to a friend at Doug's work and while he was writing up our ticket to buy the bed and mattress. After 30 minutes in the chair, I HAD to have it. I'm not a person that makes purchases like this without thinking and thinking about it, but MAN, this chair is comfy. Doug has been sitting it it upstairs watching movies with his foot up while I've spent hours posting our vacation.

It's MY turn in the chair now that I've got all the posting done.

Concrete time!

My parents got to our house at 5:50am so Glenn could frame the area for concrete and get everything ready.

The area to fill was 8 inches deep and was going to take a lot of concrete, so my step-dad decided to back fill it after all.

7am came and it was time to get the concrete. I'm sure our neighbors LOVED us!!

The wound of the day. My mom was stepping around the lava rocks you can see in the first picture and caught her calf on one. She didn't break the mirror either!

Doug's sock was full of blood when we were done. Ben and Joel were laughing at me because I put gloves on, as usual, to clean and wrap Doug's toe again. It's not the blood that bugs me, it's feet. Feet are gross. Well, they are! LOL

Thank you so much to my parents for taking their time and energy to come down and help us with concrete!!! We appreciate it so much!

OUCHIE!

Doug was rearranging the garage on Friday while wearing flip flops. He slid a metal shelf toward him and right over his toe. He hopped inside trying to get to the bathroom while yelling for me to come downstairs. I was watching I Love Lucy upstairs while going through receipts and paperwork trying to find that $40 and transferring pictures from his laptop to the main computer. Doug called me on my cell phone and said, "Can you come downstairs? I've been calling for you for 5 minutes." I said, "Well, why didn't you come upstairs and get me then?" He said, "I didn't want to bleed all over the house." Me, "OH!! I'll be right down!!" He said he was calling for me for about 5 minutes while bleeding in the sink.

Sheesh, what he won't do to get out of doing concrete Saturday morning! He probably should have gone to get stitches, but it's nothing super glue can't take care of. I got his toe all cleaned up and wrapped to stop the bleeding. Then at 9:45pm, after cleaning blood out of the bathroom rug, hall carpet, the hall rug and hosing out the garage mat, I ran to get dinner - it was way to late to start cooking, so it was a good excuse to eat out, plus we're on vacation right?! I don't think we've eaten dinner earlier than 10pm just about every night this week.

We were pretty dirty after working all day and decided to shower after dinner. Doug was on his back on the couch with his foot above his heart and just getting to the stairs his toes started bleeding all over again, so he sat in the shower with his foot up on the tub while I handed him soap and shampoo and showered myself.

What an evening.

Oh, P.S. he said, "I didn't break the mirror!" LOL

Friday morning I had to go to the eye doctor to have my Punctal Plug/Permanent Plug looked at. I thought for sure it has slipped into my tear duct, which is near impossible. My tear duct hurt and was red and swollen. But the doctor told me the plug was missing, but not it's not in my tear duct, it's just gone. The tear duct was red and swollen from eye allergies. He replaced the perm. plug and we headed to buy ammo for Doug's new gun, had some breakfast and then we went home - then Doug hurt his toe.

For those who don't know what the perm. plug is: it's because I have really dry eyes and it helps block tears from draining to help keep moisture in my eyes.

I found $40!!

The entire trip I was looking for $40 cash back that I got from Target before we left. Doug wondered if I even got the money from the cashier and I started to wonder if I threw it away. Well, 7 days later I found it.

I dug through our trashcans, luggage, receipts, etc. You name it, I looked there. This is the binder I used to keep all our maps and reservations in order. If you look closely where the arrow is pointing, there is a small strip of green. There's my $40!!! It was in front of my face the entire trip. I used the binder constantly throughout our trip; multiple times a day even.

We got to Yosemite in the afternoon and wouldn't have had enough time to hike Half Dome, but we did hike to Vernal Fall.
